Dr. Brian Hotaling

Senior Pastor
E-mail Dr. Brian Hotaling

A native of New York state, Brian’s first career was as a soldier in the US Army.  After his retirement from the military in 2004, he served as the pastor of a church in Louisiana for five years prior to coming to Charles Town in November of 2009.

He is a graduate of Liberty University, Lynchburg, Virginia and Luther Rice Seminary in Lithonia, Georgia, and has been awarded his doctoral degree in mid-2015.

The Bible is a fascinating book, complicated and simple at the same time.  When people set aside their preconceived notions about religion and escape the expectations of the culture and the society, the Bible begins to reveal truth about the nature of God, and our own lives as part of God’s creation.

With a healthy sense of humor and a unique approach to preaching, Brian feels that his ministry at Charles Town Baptist is exactly where God wants him to be.

He and his wife Kim have three daughters.  Brian enjoys cycling, fishing, golfing and football.

Elizabeth Freeman

Music Director

Elizabeth Freeman was born and raised with her two brothers in Arlington, Virginia. Growing up in a Christian home, she learned about the love of Jesus through her parents, Richard and Barbara Clampitt. Her parents served faithfully at their church as deacons, teachers and leaders. Her father continues to serve as a Deacon and Sunday School teacher. Following in her parents’ footsteps, Elizabeth made her Profession of Faith and served in the church as a children’s choir director, and teacher within the Columbia Institute of Fine Arts, Child Development Center, VBS, and Music Camp ministries.

During her college years at Longwood University, Elizabeth studied Music Education with a concentration in vocal music. In 1990, she earned her Bachelor of Music Education degree, with a minor in piano. Since then, she has fulfilled the roles of music teacher, classroom teacher, and piano teacher. Currently, she is a General Music teacher and member of the Leadership Team at Opequon Elementary School in Berkeley County.

Elizabeth and her husband, Ron, married in 1995. They reside in Berkeley County and have four daughters: Marissa, Elise, LeighAnne, and Alyssa. Their favorite vacation spot is Duck, NC. They enjoy spending time with family and traveling to other states to visit their relatives.

Although Elizabeth has attended other churches in the area, her heart has always been drawn to the Baptist Hymnal and all of the elements of the Baptist Church. In 2019, Elizabeth found her new church home at Charles Town Baptist Church and acquired the position of Music Director. As Music Director, Elizabeth desires to open the hearts of the Congregation through music, while leading them closer to Jesus.

“Oh come, let us sing to the Lord; let us make a joyful noise to the rock of our salvation.”

– Psalm 95:1

Donna Coyle

Church Organist

Donna Coyle has been a life long member of Charles Town Baptist Church, and she enjoys her job as part of the ministry team.  Her role of organist includes planning and preparing service music, scheduling special music and playing instrumental duets with others.  She is always looking for people to join our music ministry and share their God-given talents with our congregation.  She is happy to supply accompaniments when needed.  Our church is blessed with so many talented musicians and welcoming, friendly faces.

She also enjoys volunteering for Vacation Bible School and organizing Music and Drama Day Camp (both open to the entire community).  Our handbell and choir practices are often a blast!  One of her many favorite Bible verses is, “And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.”  Phil. 4:7.

She began learning piano from her dad, Willard Martin, in second grade.  She then took lessons from Diane Snyder and later studied under Irmgard Waggy.  In 1974, when the church was in need of an organist, Dorothy Conklyn taught her to play the organ and she has studied with various organ masters over the years.  She has been giving private piano lessons for about 40 years and is very proud of the accomplishments of her many students.

In 2020 she and her husband Dean have been married for 50 years.  They have two hard working and talented daughters, Christa Crawford (husband Terry) and Kerri Smith (husband Smitty), 7 grandsons, 2 granddaughters and 3 great-grandchildren.  They enjoy time with family and going to grandsons’ basketball games and drag racing events.
